long time since I have posted

I have traveled the world for two weeks (well Italy), returned to work and school and have yet to write about life in the furry friend household! Coconut is a bit sniffly right now, we have her on a few rounds of antibiotics that will hopefully kick whatever is ailing her. Lucca is continuing to get into mischief - mainly finding wwood mouldings to chew on much to Dad's chagrin. Matilda is her sweet self although lately she has started stomping in protest to being put back in her home! seems that everyone around here has picked up a bit of attitude from Coconut.

Steve and I are busy working on the yard, or should I say, weeds and putting up our new fence. I will be so happy when we no longer have to stare at the road and run down shacks in our neighbors yards.

Got a promotion at work. It has been great since I get to travel to see children now and actually help their families with coaching in different developmental techniques.

The Garden is slowly progressing. I can't seem to shake the bugs from the leaves of my plants no matter what I do. The basil keeps flowering but I did manage to cut some of the stems down to regrow and make some kickin sandwiches with our basil and tomatoes from the garden the other day. Hoping to do something with the squash real soon and a few zucchini!

I really need to go to bed tonight sometime soon. I think my eyes are dozing on me now!

So long since the last post

Wow! We have been busy. Company came into town from Michigan two weekends ago. My Dad, his girlfriend and my sister. I rained every morning but was beautiful every afternoon and evening. We had a great time hanging out and checking out many of Birmingham's "unknown" treasures.

They all enjoyed meeting our bunnies and kitties, too. Matilda had surgery on her bite wound on her back two weeks ago. Turned out to be MRSA staph. She is on another round of antibiotics to safeguard our household. She loves this new med though cause it is raspberry flavored. Coconut and Lucca are doing wonderful. Coconut is more sassy than ever but she loves sweet Lucca more than she could love any human! Lucca has turned into her protector and bather. She retreats to him frequently for baths and love when she feels threatened and he happily obliges. He is such a mild mannered and sweet boy. Matilda is still enjoying her spoiled time of hanging out on our bed at night with the kitties.

Beans, Sneakers and Aurora are all well. We recently had to purchase a plastic container for the kitty food since fatty (Aurora) has taken to eating through the bag when her bowl is empty. We are attempting to best put them on a diet but it seems pretty impossible with three kitties and never really knowing who ate what. Sneakers has lost weight since last year and Beans is generally thin but Aurora is a plump pumpkin. They get diet amounts of food but I swear she must eat something else while we are at work.

Steve is busy with work and feeling the effects of our ever growing stressful and unsuccessful economy. Honda informed him that he will not get his step ladder raise this year for being there three years and he will also get a 1/4 of the bonus he normally gets. Needless to say he is very frustrated and down on work in general. I feel bad because I cannot contribute to our household as much as he does but I try my best.

I have been really busy with school and work. Work and the environment has become my evil nemisis. I cannot wait until I graduate from grad school and hopefully *fingers crossed* get a good school counseling job. I really love grad school. I am eagerly anticipating my trip to Italy for two weeks in May to learn more about counseling in Italy. I think it will be a great chance to expand my knowledge and understanding for differences in our country and others as well as self growth. I also just put my greenhouse up and planted tons of herbs that I hope survive this frosting and manage to flourish with my meager green thumb! Only time will tell but I am hopeful!

I will close for now but hope to update more soon! Ciao

Busy weekend

Momma and Dad have had a busy busy weekend and week. They spent the weekend doing housework and getting things ready for our visitors from Michigan this week. We spent our time lounging around and eating. I laid around on the living room rug and maintained my territory for most of the time (Matilda). Momma was a little mad at me cause I ate some of my stitches but those dang things are itchy. I got to spend a few evenings laying on my parents bed with Aurora and that was super nice. I also enjoyed watching my sister, Aurora the cat, hide in and out of the Publix shopping bag. I spent my time running in and out fo the new bedroom that is finished (Coconut). I even taught my brother the ins and outs of playing hide and seek. I won't stop sneezing but am getting used to taking my medicine for the most part. Afterwards, I grunt and stomp at momma and Lucca defends me, but then we get treats and I like her again. I spend my time sunning and being the calm dude I am (Lucca). I have picked up some bad habits form Coconut but that is what happens when you get married! I am having fun exploring the new bedroom and munching on the moulding...but I usually get caught! Sneakers, Beans and Aurora have amused all three of us chasing the bugs that come into the house at night. Daddy has been putting crown moulding and bringing in the bugs with them! Momma made a link to the newest snapfish pictures she took on here at the bottom of the page! Check it out! They are pretty good although we wish she would stop with the flash!

Suprise surgery...

Ms. Matilda had surgery yesterday. She spent the day at work with me and then we headed off to the vet. Dr. Campbell was wonderful. We have never seen him before but since Dr. Atlas was off for the week we had the chance to meet him. He took a look at little Mattie's battle wounds and together we decided that surgery was our best option. SO, while Mattie and I were waiting for them to prepare the OR, Mattie sat on momma's lap and gave me a nice face cleaning. She licked my whole face and nuzzled into my neck. I think she was reassuring me that I was making the right decision for her to start to feel better. Off she went to surgery and I waited in the room for her. Dr. Campbell brought her back about 45 minutes later and let momma hold her while she was waking up. She did fabulous! She has a whole slew of stitches down the side of her back and two on her ear. Mattie took about 30 minutes to wake up enough to hold her head up but Dr. Campbell checked her over and talked with momma and decided that she was well enough to come home. We thought we might have to do sub Q fluids for her, but she was a trooper. When we got home she lounged for a bit and then decided she needed to eat and drink something! Yea Mattie! Daddy came home and brought some plexi glass with him and we put it in between the bun pens to keep the biting between pens at bay!

Today all three buns seem to be doing pretty well. Ms. Nut and Lucca are out running around. Or should I say Coconut is busy re-scenting everything in the livingroom and Lucca ran out for a minute and then ran back to their pen area! Coconut is due for a haircut today but momma is going to wait until later this evening to tackle that project. Hair trims and nail cutting is always momma's least favorite projects with these buns!

I have been ready the annual Rabbit magazine and decided that I am going to submit photos of all three of them to the annual rabbit photo contest. SO, I have been carrying my camera around to catch cute shots of all of them. Needless to say, Coconut and Matilda aren't huge fans of the flash or the constant photo opps!

Sneakers is busy rolling on the carpet in cat nip and Coconut is hopping circles around her at the moment. Earlier Sneak decided to check out Lucca's view from atop the bun home. Lucca wasn't quite sure about that one and appeared rather pleased with Sneaker's decision to depart from his sunny spot.

Beans and Aurora are busy running all over the house. Attempting to find windows to sun in and screens to smell the outdoors from. Beans has a never ending mission to plot his escape route to the outdoors. Aurora is just plump and happy. Mostly.

Today momma and dad are awaiting the arrival of our new couch. We are planning on trimming some shrubs and mowing the lawn, completing the trim in the spare bedroom and moving the old couch on in there! Let's see what all we get accomplished! For now, I should go to get things moving!

Another vet trip for Matilda...well warrented...sigh...

Mattie's at work with Momma today. Daddy got up and heard a ruckus in the rabbit room. Apparently Mr. Lucca and Ms. Coconut decided 5:30am was an appropriate time to nibble on Mattie's ear through the pen. They are seperated until Mattie is better from her snuffles and bite wound, however, I think they are going to be seperated for much longer. UGH! Poor Mattie, her ear has nibble marks in it and the end is torn - probably will need a stitch. So for now the sweet little girl is spending the morning at the Shelby Arc office with me. We cleaned her up and put some antibiotic ontiment on her ear and gave her morning dose of meds. She seems okay and content hanging out on a blanket at the office. Munching on some hay in her box and hopping around on the blanket. After work this morning it will be off to see Dr. Campbell since Dr. Atlas is out for the week. I woudn't know what to do without that vet office. They are wonderful despite the huge amounts of money we had to shell out lately. Heck, we do it for our human family, so we must do it for our fur babies, too.

Coconut is still sneezing but her nose doesn't look quite as runny. She is such a sassafrass and piggie. I sat in her and Lucca's pen last night to give meds and she must have stomped at me at least 10 times! Then I pulled out the bananas and she was all about hopping all over me for a few treats! Lucca, too, boy they love those bananas!

Last night Lucca explored the spare bedroom on his own which is a huge deal! But then he decided to make his way to the living room rug and him and Matilda had a bit of a scruffle for territory. Thankfully no one was injured. The kitties really don't know what to think. Thankfully Aurora enjoys bathing Matilda's head, so I feel okay that she is getting some love from at least one other furrty friend. Sneakers and Aurora enjoy bedtime snuggles on our bed and Mattie has joined in the action. It is actually quite cute in the fact that all three will lounge at the end of the bed and "watch" tv until it is time to fall asleep. Beans has taken to chasing after Mattie, probably because she is the only animal in the house that will run from him. Then he sits and watches her and sniffs her. Not mean spirited but totally a Beans thing to do.

Both Sneakers and Aurora have decided that they are items from Publix. They have spent the last few nights curling up in the Publix reusable shopping bag I have and then waiting until Steve or I walk by to pounce out. I swear, in a house with a gagillion toys, they choose things like bags, shoelaces and toliet paper rolls as their top toys! When will us humans learn!

Aside from all the rabbit ruckus, I am hoping to work on our lawn this weekend. I swear, the people that resided in our house previously had to quite possibly be the worst homeowners ever. Not only did they not do anything about termites but they let their boys through well over 30 balls into the gutters and they did not take care of the lawn. SO, now I am engrossed in a battle with the weeds that I call our lawn. Hoping to mow it today or tomorrow and lay down another weed treatment. I am determined to beat this! My purple tulips have all bloomed and look beautiful and smell pretty good, too. Now I just hope all the other flowers come up at their respective times!

Steve is hoping to finish the third spare bedroom this weekend and hopefully everything will be set for our visitors next week! I desperately need to trim the bushes in the front of the house since they have grown over and cover most of the windows!

Here's hoping there will be a peaceful rabbit and feline environment when Mattie and I return home. At least Steve is picking up plexi glass to place in between the rabbit runs so there will be no more ear chewing on the agenda! I am sure there will be an update this afternoon! Pray for us at the vet and Matilda for a calm and unpainful treatment!

St. Pattys Day fun

Mommy's home from school and Daddy's done working out. We are all out running around.

Coconut has taken to checking out the newly floored spare bedroom. She enjoys running in and out of the room at rapid rates and getting Lucca in on the excitement as well. Her snuffles seems to be slowly disappearing.

Lucca is gathering more courage to explore new rooms other than the "bun" room. He has taken to playing follow the leader with Ms. Nut and enjoys running in and out of the kitchen as well as the jumping back and forth through the window between the kitchen and the bun room.

Matilda's Snuffles appear to be all gone. Her bite wound on the other hand is ticking us off. It keeps scabbing over even though we are scrubbing it twice a day like we were advised. It looks like it is shrinking a little but I think a trip back to Dr. Atlas will be warranted to finally fix it. Hopefully this visit will be our last for a while and won't be quite as costly as the last two!

It's almost time for our daily veggie bowls and bananas.

Mommy has to run to check on the nut because she hears chomping and is pretty sure it is something that was not intended for rabbit teeth!

First Blog

This is our Mommy's first posting. She wanted to create a site where she could rave to others about how cool we are and how much she loves us. So, here it goes. For now, we will let her talk until she gets used to translating all of our talking to human speak.

Our white little cottonball is Coconut, she is a mini lionhead, or so we were told. Our vet thinks she might be an Angora. Whatever the case, she is fluffy and there is no end in sight for her fur growth. Coconut is rambunctious, outgoing, sassy and always wanting to be in everyones business! We got her from a breeder in Missouri after our baby lionhead, Willow, passed away unexpectedly. Since Coconut has arrived we started communicating with the Alabama Ears network in Birmingham and decided that Coconut needed a bun friend.

In comes Lucca and...Matilda...

Linda Howard is a fabulous and loving lady. She fosters bunnies that people discard after the novelty of having a Easter Rabbit wears off. She fosters those that are dumped in the forest to fend for themselves, left at the Humane Society or rescued from horrific incidents. After speaking with her on several occasions, it was decided we would bring Coconut to her after having her spayed to find a bunmate for her. Upon arrival to Linda's home, both Lucca and Matilda were out playing in their run area. Coconut payed no mind to either of them and was more concerned with checking out all the new smells. SO, it was decided that the bond of THREE may be a great idea! They bonded wonderfully, or so we thought! Isn't that how it always works?

Upon coming home, little Mattie showed us a nice runny nose and had some scabs on her back. We immediately took her to Dr. Atlas and she had the Snuffles and an infection at the bite wound site on her back. Soon afterwards, Ms. Coconut showed signs of the Snuffles, too. Mattie's wound has become a thorn in our side at the moment and is being quite resistant in healing. We are working at it everyday though and slowly it is getting smaller. For now, both bunshines are on antibiotics for the Snuffles and responding well. Needless to say, Matilda is currently in her own little area until her wound heals completely. We will have to rebond all three together in due time, but for now, health is more important!

SOO, back to the rabbits and their personalities...

Lucca is the biggest bun of the bunch but the most laid back. He loves to sit back and watch everything going on around him. He follows Coconut's lead in most everything and enjoys sunning on top of their habitat during all hours of the day. He loves to cuddle and sits nicely for bathing and grooming and loves pets from his Mommy and Daddy!

Ms. Matilda is sweet as can be but don't be fooled. She likes to own the room, err, space she is occupying. Mattie likes to lounge around the living room, run on the carpet and check out things higher up than she. She loves loves loves her cilantro and hopping in and out of her litter box at fast speeds. Her and Coconut are currently in the midst of a battle of Alpha needless to say they are kept separate for now.
